A Look at your Current Job:
Often, the most overlooked opportunity for career development is the opportunity that exists in your current job. When an individual becomes dissatisfied with a job--for whatever reason--getting out of that job is not the only solution.

Your everyday work provides the best opportunity for learning. For one thing, it's where you are now, so you can begin immediately. Also, try to remember that the job you may be getting tired of might be seen as a great career opportunity by someone else. Try stepping out of your job for a moment and looking at it as someone else might. Perhaps there are opportunities you have missed or overlooked.

Do you enjoy your job? Why? Why not?

Does your present job fit in with your values system?

How would you rate your job performance?

How would your supervisor rate your job performance?

How might a new employee do your job differently?

How could your job be re-organized so that it would be more challenging?

Have your predecessors been promoted?

Is your job a training ground for promotion?

Does it logically lead to a higher-level position?

Does it let you make decisions?

Do you have any control? Responsibility? Authority?
